How a website project works: five phases, three invoices, one fixed price

Every project runs the same way, and you always know which step we are on. Nothing is committed until the price is, and nothing is billed that was not agreed.

Two rounds of amends per stage 40 / 30 / 30 Final invoice before launch

Agreement

Week 0

Nothing is committed until the price is.

  1. Discovery call

    30 min

30 minutes, free. What the site has to do, who it is there to help, and what is going wrong now.

  2. Proposal and fixed price

    3 days

Within three working days. Scope, price, dates. One number, not a range.

  3. Contract signed

Three invoices across the project. Never hourly — the price only moves if the scope does.

Plan

Weeks 1–2

The phase that decides whether the rest runs on time.

  1. First invoice

    40%

    On signature.

  2. Sitemap and wireframes

Structure agreed before a single pixel. Cheaper to move a box now than a built page later.

  3. Content plan

What is needed, who writes it, when it is due. Late content is the single biggest cause of late launches — so it gets a date.

Design

Weeks 2–4

Direction agreed first, then one design done properly.

  1. Moodboard

Typography, color, references and tone, agreed before any layout. This is where taste gets aligned.

  2. Homepage design

One direction, built on the moodboard you already signed off. Not a menu to choose from.

  3. Remaining pages designed

Every template you need, including the states most sites forget — empty, error, loading.

  4. Two rounds of amends

Included. Each round gathered in one pass rather than dripped through the week.

  5. Design sign-off and second invoice

    30%

Build does not start until the design is agreed in writing.

Build

Weeks 4–8

You see it when it is finished and tested, not while it is half-built.

  1. Development build

Custom blocks, no page builder, minimal plugins. Named in your language, not developer jargon.

  2. Content loaded and checked

Your words, in place, proofed against the plan.

  3. Internal QA

Cross-browser, real devices, keyboard and screen reader, Core Web Vitals. So the site reaches you already tested and ready for your review.

  4. Staging link

Sent once the build is complete and tested — one link, one considered review, rather than weeks of watching a building site.

  5. Review and amends

Two rounds, same as design. Your amends are applied, you check the site again, anything else you spot is fixed in the second round, then you approve.

  6. Build sign-off and final invoice

    30%

    Before launch, not after.

Launch

Weeks 8–10

The guarantees get measured here, in front of you.

  1. Pre-launch checks

WCAG 2.2 AA by keyboard and screen reader. Core Web Vitals. Technical SEO. Redirects mapped. Backups running.

  2. Launch

Scheduled, not sprung. A quiet day of your choosing.

  3. Handover

A recorded walkthrough and a written guide, so the next marketing hire is not stuck.

  4. Thirty-day check

    30 days

The checks run again on live traffic, so the results hold after launch.

Start at step one

30 minutes to talk through your site and what you need. If it’s a fit, you get a written fixed-price proposal within three working days.
